Spiritual Awareness is given of God the power or ability to see, perceive and or to understand spiritual things or the spiritual things of God. It is a gift the Holy Spirit manifests in the lives of believers that allows them to see and to understand spiritual things, or the spiritual things of God. The gift is called discernment. The gift of discerning of spirit and is found in I Corinthians 12:10 and is among the many gifts of the Holy Spirit manifestation. It comes with the desire to know the Word and Wisdom of God. In I Peter 2:1-3, he says: “Wherefore laying aside all malice (ill feeling), and all (deceit) guile, and (pretend) hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow (spiritually) thereby: If so ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious (showing kindness).” The apostle Peter make known to us that our spirit have been recreated, or that we have been born again. He says: “Being born again not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” The Apostle Paul then tells us in 1 Corinthians 2:12-16: “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural (unregenerated), nor the carnal (fleshly) man receiveth not the things of God: for they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.”
The mind of Christ, can be obtained only by the renewing of our mind, as spoken of by the apostle Paul in Romans 12:1- 2, he says: “I beseech (beg of) you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not (no longer) conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove (or test) what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Paul is explaining to us what needs to take place in our lives in order for us to obtain the mind of Christ. He tells us first of all, that we need to yield our body as living sacrifices holy unto God meaning to give ourselves over as instruments of God to no longer do our will, but the will of God. Paul tells us in Romans 6:12-18 to: “Let not sin therefore (rule) reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of (teaching) doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.” We are told next to no longer be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Our question is, what is going to transform, and renew our minds? The answer is the Word of God. Why? The Bible says: “For the word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
The Word of God is what separates the spirit from the soul, enabling us to walk according to the Spirit, and not the flesh or according to our emotions. The Apostle Paul goes on to say, that the Word of God is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Jeremiah 17:9-10, says: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.” We must understand that man is a three fold being. We have a spirit, with a soul, in a body. Before the fall of Adam and Eve this is the order in which they lived with the spirit dominating. After the fall, the soul dominated the body, and the spirit died leaving them operating in the flesh, or soulish man which is the sin nature. The soul, and mind are interchangable. The soul or mind is made up of three components. The intellect, the emotions, and the will. When we renew our minds through the Word of God, having surrendered the will. The will acts upon the Word of God hidden in our hearts, which have replaced the knowledge (error) of our former lives hidden in our hearts. Remember it is the truth that make us free from bondage. David is better able to explain this when he says in Psalm 119:11: “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against you.” The Word of God hidden in our hearts is what rules and governs, the true born again believers. Therefore, the Word of God make known: “To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: But unto them that are contentious (tending to argue, and quarrel), and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: For there is no respect of person with God.” Romans 2:7-11 “Last but not least, the apostle Paul tells Timothy to: “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker (gangrene): of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; Who concerning the truth have erred, saying the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity (gross immortality). 2 Timothy 2:15-19 The Apostle Paul was telling Timothy that he needed to study the Word of God for himself because anything other than the truth, would cause others to error and that it would increase unto more ungodliness, if the word was not rightly divided. Hymenaeus and Philetus, out of ignorant was taught error and ended up saying that the resurrection was past overthrowing the faith of some. We must study for ourselves, so that the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth can reveal to us, the spiritual things of God. The Word of God, which is truth allows us to not only hear what God is saying, but we are also able to see and understand what God is saying. It is in seeing that we are able to obey God. In seeing we are no longer ignorant of the truth and knowing the truth enables us to walk in the truth. One thing to keep in mind. If we have no desire to live a holy and righteous life. We will remain in our lustful desires. Without a strong desire which initiates growth our behavior will not change.

So the Apostle James tells us that faith without works is dead and gives us an example of the body without the spirit being dead so is faith without works. We can no say we believe God and not do what we say we believe. We cannot please God without faith. It is impossible. We are in reality pleasing self. To please and walk according to the will of God, we must deny self, take up our cross daily and follow Jesus! End of story!
